Online Voter Registration Clears Senate
The Illinois Senate says it'll approve a bill which could one day allow people to register to vote using the Internet. Lawmakers say the bill aims to make the voting process more appealing to people who otherwise don't vote. Under the plan Illinois will let applicants register online using their driver's license and the last four digits of their Social Security number.

Gambling Expansion Still Alive In Springfield
A gambling expansion bill has new life in the final days of the legislative session. A key House committee has approved a bill that calls for five new casinos and dozens of new slot machine positions. Sponsor Rep. Robert Rita says details on tax rates are being worked out, as is language covering oversight of a Chicago casino. Governor Quinn has vetoed two previous bills to expand gaming in Illinois.
U Of I Trustees OK New Name For Assembly Hall
University of Illinois trustees have okayed a 165-million-dollar renovation plan for Assembly Hall on the Champaign-Urbana campus. The board signed off on the design plans and on the new name -- the "State Farm Center" -- for which the insurance company is paying 60-million-dollars. The board also ratified a 200-thousand-dollar raise for head basketball coach John Groce, bringing his compensation package to one-point-six-million-dollars a year. The board has also approved raising the insurance rates for students on the Chicago campus so that gender reassignment surgery could be covered.
