He's expected to officially announce his candidacy for Illinois' 17th district on Monday in Galesburg, East Moline and Peoria. Speed Limit Bill Could Create Confusion
(Springfield, IL) -- A bill on Governor Pat Quinn's desk to raise the interstate highway speed limit to 70 miles-per-hour contains something of a speed bump. The bill would raise the limit from 65 to 70 on highways in non-urban areas, but includes an option for local county boards to opt out.
Larger Illinois counties haven't said whether they'll take advantage of that option, which could create a patchwork of local laws.
Shooting Numbers Down For Peoria
(Peoria, IL) -- The number of shootings are down in Peoria for the first half of this year. The City of Peoria Weekly Issues report indicates that "shots fired" dispatches have fallen 34-percent over the last year. Incidents in which people have been shot have dropped eleven-percent. However, the number of deaths from a shooting is up one-percent.
