>>Springfield School Board Seeks Open Meeting Violation Review
(Springfield, IL) -- The Springfield School Board wants a review of the state's attorney general opinion that it violated the open meetings act. The AG's office in May said District 186 members broke the open meetings law when six members earlier signed a separation agreement with ex-Superintendent Walter Milton without notifying the public.
>>Techs Furloughed At 182nd Airlift Wing
(Peoria, IL) -- More than 200 military technicians at the 182nd Airlift Wing in Peoria are getting hit by the sequester. They were forced to take yesterday off without pay.
Lieutenant Colonel Steve Thomas confirmed the tech's furlough. They'll be taking one day off a week until September. The time off amounts to a 20-percent pay cut for them during the period.
>>Postal Service Warns Of Address-Change Scam
(Bedford Park, IL) -- A warning is being issued by the U.S. Postal Service about a change-of-address scam. Central Illinois District Manager Peter Allen says the Postal Service is not affiliated with the businesses that own websites that charge a fee for the service. Some customers have paid up to 30-dollars for a change of address on such websites.
>>State Seeing More Tourists In All Counties
(Springfield, IL) -- Tourist spending is up in Illinois. It rose more than five-percent across the state last year than the year before, for a total of 31-billion dollars. The Illinois Office of Tourism says the state hosted 99-million domestic visitors last year, a six-percent increase. All of the state's 102 counties recorded an increase in tourist spending last year.
