A Princeton man is heading behind bars for using a funeral home's money to pay for his gas. 22-year-old Cody Merritt of Princeton was sentenced to 2 and a half years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to the class 4 felony offense of theft/subsequent offense. Merritt used his employer, Norberg Memorial Home's, gas credit card to fuel his own car and other's in exchange for cash back in February and March. His 2 month gas scam will cost him almost 5 grand, or 1390 gallons of gas, after fines, fees, costs and restitution to the funeral home. Merritt's prior convictions included posession of a controlled substance and residential burglary in La Salle County.
