River Bend Foodbank has selected Hall Township Food Pantry in Spring Valley as the 27th recipient of the Jim Coyle Memorial Award. The award is named in memory of Jim Coyle, a founding board member of River Bend Foodbank, and recognizes excellence in feeding the hungry. Hall township food pantry in Spring Valley serves an average of 300 families per month which equals approximately 1,000 people. One out of 11 individuals in the community are pantry dependent and hall township serves individuals in Arlington, Bureau, Cherry, Dalzell, Depue, Hollowayville, Ladd, Seatonville and Spring Valley. The 45 volunteers and 12 leaders that make up the board will not only be recognized with the award, they will also receive 5000 lbs. of food for their pantry. Director Jan Martin says their biggest challenge is keeping their shelves stocked because poverty in Spring Valley is at an all-time high. She said "receiving this award affirms that we are indeed going in the right direction. Most importantly, we receive 5,000lbs of food! That means lots of groceries for our neighbors in need!" .
