>>Teamsters Endorses Quinn
(Springfield, IL) -- Governor Pat Quinn is winning the support of Teamsters Joint Council 25 in his bid for re-election. The labor union previously endorsed Quinn for years ago. Quinn was a member of the group during his college days. Quinn's challenger, Bill Daley, says the endorsement is no surprise, despite the governor having the second-worst jobs record of any governor in America.
>>Dunlap Decides Against Year-Round Schools
(Peoria, IL) -- Dunlap has decided against year-round schools. District Superintendent Jay Marino says declining property values facing school districts across the state played a significant role in the decision. He says the panel looking into the idea found the benefits would not outweigh the costs for Dunlap's high-achieving, low-poverty demographics.
>>Aid For Utilities, Rent Available
(Bloomington, IL) -- People in McLean and Livingston counties who need assistance in paying for utilities or rent will be getting help. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program will start accepting applications on Tuesday. The program helps to pay gas heat and electric bills for households with incomes equal to or less than 150-percent of the poverty level. Also, Crisis Assistance Funds will be available for people who are homeless and trying to get an apartment.
>>Beatles Marker Going Up In Benton
(Benton, IL) -- A little piece of Beatles history is being marked in Benton. The Illinois State Historical Society is putting a memorial in place to remember George Harrison's visit to the area. It'll be put in place during a ceremony at Capitol Park on September 21st. Harrison's sister is scheduled to attend the event.
