>>Madigan Wants Minors Banned From Buying E-Cigarettes
(Chicago, IL) -- Attorney General Lisa Madigan wants the FDA to ban minors from buying e-cigarettes. She and 39 other AG's are asking the agency to take measures to regulate the electronic smokes as tobacco products. The nicotine based items have become increasingly popular among youth and young adults. Supporters of the e-cigarette movement claim they're less harmful than real cigarettes because they don't contain tobacco, but experts say nicotine is highly addictive and has immediate bio-chemical effect on the brain and body.
>>Insurance Rates Not As High As Expected
(Undated) -- Illinoisans looking to buy healthcare coverage under the Affordable Care Act won't pay as much as the feds originally expected. Officials say the prices are about 25-percent lower than what they thought. Rates will vary from person to person and will be based on age, whether a person smokes, and where they live.
Illinois residents are required to purchase health care coverage by the end of the year. Enrollment for the ACA starts next Tuesday, October 1st.

(Chicago, IL) -- Democratic candidate for governor Tio Hardiman says pumping more money into high crime communities could be the key to cutting back on gun violence. He says Chicago officials should invest in programs that train at-risk youth with the skills they need to be productive members of society. Hardiman also agrees that there should be tighter gun laws and tougher penalties for people who are busted with illegal guns. More than 300 people have been killed in Chicago this year, at least 75-percent were shot to death.

(Springfield, IL) -- People in Springfield can get an up close and personal look at the face of an American gangster. A mask mold of John Dillinger's face will be on display at the Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation museum from tomorrow through Sunday. Dillinger was a notorious gangster who ran the streets of Chicago back in the 1930's. He was gunned down outside the city's Biograph Theater in 1934. A criminologist managed to grab a mold of his face while his body was at the Cook County morgue.

According to PolicyMic.com, Illinois has the highest robbery rate with about 285 out of every 100-thousand people likely to get held-up. The stat comes from a list of all things bad in America, from health to travel and drug use. So, how does Illinois compare to its neighbors. Well, Missouri has the highest rate of bankruptcy, Indiana is ranked the most environmentally unfriendly, Iowa has the highest percentage of people over 85, Kentucky has the most cancer deaths, and Wisconsin has the highest rate of binge drinking.
