>>Prison Inmate Accidentally Released
(Champaign, IL) -- A prison inmate who was accidentally released from Vienna Correctional Center is back behind bars. DOC Spokesman Tom Schaer says someone let Michael Sanders go last Friday, six weeks before his scheduled November parole date. He's apparently serving back-to-back sentences for a couple crimes. The shorter sentence was up last week but a DOC employee miscalculated the time for the second sentence. Sanders was free for about three hours before he was taken back into custody.
>>Illinois Congressman Votes Against Religious Service InMilitary
(Washington, D.C.) -- Congressman Bill Enyart is defending his decision to vote against allowing religious services in the military during the government shutdown. He was the only person in Congress to vote against the idea on Saturday.
He tells WSIL-TV in Carbondale it's a "feel-good" proposal that won't do anything to solve the nation's problems. He says he's more concerned about getting furloughed workers back on the job.
>>One Dead After Mining Accident
(Carmi, IL) -- One man is dead after a mining accident in southern Illinois. Officials say Robert Smith was inside a cart when it veered off an underground path, hit a rib and flipped over Saturday afternoon. It happened at White County Coal in Carmi. Mine workers reportedly carried Smith to the surface and tried to revive him. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
>>Plane Makes Emergency Landing In Peoria
(Peoria, IL) -- Investigators are trying to figure out what went wrong with an American Eagle flight that made an emergency landing in Peoria. The plane took off from the central Illinois airport and was headed toward Dallas yesterday but, the pilots made a quick turnaround once they noticed a problem. Reports indicate there was smoke in the cockpit. All 50 people on board were evacuated safely.
>>Bears Lose Two In A Row
(Chicago, IL) -- The Bears drop two in a row. They lost to Drew Brees the undefeated New Orleans Saints yesterday, with a final score of 26-18. The Bears are now 3-2. They'll face the New York Giants Thursday.
>>Cardinals Down Two-To-One To Pirates
(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Carlos Beltran knocked one out of the park yesterday, but it wasn't enough for the Cardinals to take the lead in the NLDS. They lost 5-3 yesterday, giving Pittsburgh a one game advantage after three. Game four is today at 2:07 p.m.
