>>Dad Praises Lawmakers For Noticing Heroin Problem (Homer Glen, IL) -- A dad from Homer Glen is praising lawmakers for taking notice of the heroin problems that face teenagers. John Roberts lost his 19-year-old son Billy four years ago, after he’d become addicted to the drug. And Billy isn’t alone. Reports indicate youth deaths are on the rise across Illinois, and have doubled in Will County since 2008. A new legislative task force has been created to come up with possible solutions to make teens, teachers, and parents more aware of the risks of heroin. >>Efforts Underway To Change Redistricting Process (Springfield, IL) -- One Illinois group is collecting 300-thousand signatures to amend the state’s constitution. Michael Kolenc, with Yes for Independent Maps, says the majority party in Illinois has too much control over how legislative lines are drawn. They’d like an independent commission in charge of recreating legislative boundaries every ten years, after a U.S. Census.
Kolenc says that’s the only way to rid the system of corruption and gives voters a choice over who represents them in Springfield. If the group gets enough signatures, voters will decide who gets to draw the lines in next year’s election. >>Seminar Focuses On Reality Of Bombs On The Big Screen (Jacksonville, IL) -- Have you’ve ever wondered if that scene in Lethal Weapon 2 with Danny Glover sitting on a toilet bomb could actually happen? Well, here’s your chance to find out. MacMurray College in Jacksonville is hosting the Science in the Movies series, all about explosions in the movies. Organizers will use the laws of science to look at the explosions in blockbuster hits such as Die Hard, Angels and Demons, Lethal Weapon 2, and others. It takes place Sunday afternoon at 4:00p.m. in the Bailey Auditorium in Julian Hall, located on South Clay. The event is free and open to the public. >>Bears Top Giants (Chicago, IL) -- The Bears go to four-and-two on the season. They topped the New York Giants last night, with a final score of 27 to 21. The Giants haven’t won a game at all this year, they’re oh-and-six. The Bears have a week off and will face the Redskins on October 20th. >>Bulls Face Wizards In Preseason Game (Chicago, IL) -- The Bulls are playing another pre-season game this weekend. They’ll face the Washington Wizards at 4:00p.m. tomorrow. The game is being held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. >>Blackhawks Face Islanders Tonight (Chicago, IL) -- The Blackhawks are up against the New York Islanders tonight. The game starts at 7:00p.m.
