Search for missing Ransom woman called off

The search for Tanya Shannon of Ransom, who vanished after a weekend car accident that killed her husband Dale, was called off Tuesday night. LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton says he had no choice but to call off the search until the snow melts, when searchers  will be able to see more.  Officials are now calling it a missing persons investigation. Bob K elly, a neighbor of the Shannons, calls it a strange case. Officials say it's possible Shannon was picked up by a passing motorist, but she was not dropped off at any of the local hospitals. The couple was driving home from a holiday party in Streator when their vehicle apparently slide on the ice and crashed into a utility pole 6 miles from their home. The Shannons have four children, all girls ages 3 to 13. The children are staying with relatives.
