Funeral service for Shirley Mae Pearce, age 88 of Marianna, Florida, formerly of Bureau Junction, Illinois, will be Friday, Feb 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Bureau Congregational Church. Pastor Jack Stites will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Hennepin, Illinois on Feb 22, 2013. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Feb 21, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Norberg Memorial Home.
Mrs. Pearce passed away on Sunday, Feb 17, 2013 at Washington Rehab and Nursing Center, in Chipley, Florida. She was born on May 10, 1924 in Spring Valley, IL to Alfred and Julia (Henning) Morine. She grew up in Hennepin, IL and graduated from Hennepin High School. She also graduated from Brown Business College. Shirley worked for Victory House in Seneca, IL and for the Boy Scouts of America during WWII. Shirley married Franklin Pearce on March 19, 1946 at the Methodist Church in Hennepin. She was a librarian in Bureau, IL. Shirley was a Cub Scout Den Mother and started a troop in Bureau. Shirley was seamstress and made all her family's clothing. She and her husband were native to Illinois and moved to Marianna, FL in 1995 from Live Oak, FL. She also started a library at Washington Rehab and Nursing center where she resided in Chipley, FL,. Shirley taught Sunday school at her nursing home and was President of the residents association. Shirley also received the Hall of Fame award at her nursing home. She was a long time member of Bureau Congregational Church and the Grace United Methodist Church in Marianna, Florida.
Shirley is survived by her children: Bruce A. (Caroline) Pearce of Metamora, Carol Susan Labrecque of Seffner, Florida, and Nancy L. (David) Sandham of Marianna, Florida. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Robert Labrecque, Christopher Pearce and Michael Pearce, three great-grandchildren. Surviving as well are sisters Marjorie (the late Bill) Bruer of Washington, IL, Patricia(the late Edwin) Hank of Lacon, Nellie Ruth (David) Newburn of Bureau Junction, and one brother John (Patricia) Morine of Buda. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Pearce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one grandson in infancy Micah Pearce.
Memorials may be directed to Bureau Congregational Church or Grace United Methodist Church in Marianna, Florida.
There will be a memorial service at a later date at the Grace United Methodist Church in Marianna, Florida to honor Shirley.
