Memorial service for Donald Martin Podolak, age 66 of Princeton, will be Saturday, Mar 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Peru. Pastor Timothy Kenyon will officiate. Burial will be private and at a later date. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Mar 23, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Peru.
Mr. Podolak passed away on Sunday, Mar 17, 2013 at Home. He was born on Jan 07, 1947 in Berwyn, IL to Martin Joseph and Esther Minnie (Nissen) Podolak. He married Diane Dowling on Jan 22, 1972 in Hinsdale, IL. He graduated from La Grange Township High School in 1965. He served in the US Army during Vietnam from 1965 to 1968. He received a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Don was an operating engineer in the local 150. He retired in 1990. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Peru. Don was very interested in Railroad Memorabilia, antique construction equipment and tractors and was a member of Military Vehicle Preservation. He was also involved in the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his Wife of 41 years, Diane Podolak of Princeton. Also surviving is one sister Dori (Paul) Arena of Ferryville, WI.
He was preceded by his parents, and a brother in law James Hanson.
Memorials may be directed to Wounded Warriors or St. John's Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are through Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton.
