Hazel I. Eckberg, age 99, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Liberty Village in Princteon.
Hazel was born on April 8, 1914 on a farm north of Alpha, Minnesota, the daughter of W.A. and Lena (Lange) Wallace. She was united in marriage to Arthur Eckberg on August 18, 1937 in Crown Point, Indiana. He preceded her in death in 1986. She attended Bowen and other one room country grade schools, Manlius High School and graduated from Bureau Township High School with the class of 1932. She was active in the Royal Neighbors of America and the Mothers of World War II in New Bedford, Illinois. When she was yougner she belonged to the Helping Hand Club in the Manlius area. She held various offices in these organizations. As a young girl Hazel was a member of the Methodist Church in Walnut, Illinois. She lived on various famrs in the Bureau Township, Manlius, Thomas and Walnut area finally settling in the New Bedford and Manlius area. She was a housewife and very active in many organizations.
She is survived by one son William Eckberg of Dixon, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister Fern and one brother Earl.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 10:30a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.
